Concert Roundup 9/19-9/25

I've been waiting for this week since the middle of August when I updated my calender and watched concerts with perfect line ups stack up. This week is tremendous, not to mention filled with some of the best local talent this city has to offer. I'm choosing the local shows over the slightly bigger names all week. I'm most excited for Friday-Sunday. Go see a show!

Girls - Honey Bunny

Honey Bunny, the opening track on the new Girls album, will be out on 7″ and digital October 10 through Fantasy Trashcan / Turnstile. The B side will be brand new track Martina Martinez.

Here’s what Christopher Owens from Girls had to say about the track:

“Honey Bunny” was my 19th song to write. I wrote it on my birthday in 2008. I think the fact that it’s No. 19 gives it a little perspective. My first songs were kind of like, “Ahhhh, Help!” This one has a bit of swagger to it, and some reflection about my mother. It’s a special song to me now, not for the sassy swagger bits as much the parts about Mama. But I think for the listener, it could be the exact opposite. The energy and optimism and determination in it is quite appealing. But that’s the great thing about these things, right? The fact that all of us are hearing something entirely different. I believe that.” (via turnstile)

Girls - Lust for Life

Here is a fun one. I like how this video is a total throw back to the 90s grunge look/garage band. I want that to come back. By "that" I mean both the popular garage band and the style. It's one of those songs where I can't figure out why I like it. It must be the hand clapping...surprise! Maybe the stuff they wish for has something to do with it too:

Nizlopi - Girls

If you have been anywhere around my ipod and me in the past year than you have heard this song. I am in love and felt like posting twice today just to share this song with you and because I wanted to watch the awesome animated video that goes with it too. "Girls" is from Nizlopi's first album called "Half these songs are about you" and was one of those songs that I latched onto which is evident because he makes an appearance on at least half of my itunes playlist from last year. I also love how his cute British accent comes through in his songs. He is also equipped with some great lyrics.

Nizlopi's myspace page says that he is on sabatical until January 2010 so I am starting to get excited to see what new stuff he has got. Some of my other favorites include: Extraordinary, Helen, JCB song, and Wash Away. Absolutely worth checking out if you are in the mood for some good raw music. You can tell that he is just beginning but that he has lots of potential plus he is a cute Brit, so you can't go wrong. Enjoy!
