Maps & Atlases will be releasing a new album, Beware and Be Grateful, on April 17th. Their debut release from 2010, Perch Patchwork, is an album that I find myself revisiting on a monthly basis. Maybe I like it so much because it reminds me of the time that Maps & Atlases led us out of the hot and sticky music venue on a perfect August night and played "Pigeon" for us on the Cambridge sidewalk. A fan's relationship and loyalty to a band are highly dependent on those types of memorable connections, but at the bottom of it, my admiration for this band is based on my love of their sound that refuses to be defined by any genre and Dave Davison's distinguished vocals that set them apart from the multitudes of other musicians that get lumped into their indie corner.
This new track is an exciting preview of what's coming. It's a slight deviation from the previous formula, it's definitely poppier, but it still sounds like the Maps & Atlases I fell in love with on a sidewalk during a summer night two years ago.
