Alexander - Alexander
This is one of the best weeks for releases this year and even though there are goodies like Lykke Li, Devotchka, Eisley, Middle Brother, Papercuts, Rural Alberta Advantage...need I go on? There are about 10 more highly anticipated albums to add to that list, yet Alexander's was the one I bought first thing this morning because I just knew it was going to be ten perfect tracks. And it is. In case you don't know, Alexander is the debut solo project of Alexander Ebert the frontman of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes. One of the amazing things about this album is that he performed every single sound himself, whether he was slapping his knee, jingling some bells, or playing a thrift store violin and organ, it was all him. Something about this music is timeless and appeals to such a wide range of people, even those that don't normally like folky kickbacks to the 60s/70s. Maybe it's the lightheartedness that seeps into every crevice of the songs, that is so irresistible. I have yet to find a person that doesn't fall in love with this music. Take a listen below and then go buy it.
