Songs About Ghosts [Mixtape]

Better late than never, here is the mixtape that I promised. While most of the songs fit into the "Ghost" theme rather well, some are a bit more of a stretch. Over the summer, I came across quite a few songs about ghosts which seemed strange at the time but was perfect for right now. My favorite tracks, while hard to choose, are numbers 5, 12, and 13. Make sure you check them out. However it should be a suitable playlist for your Halloween weekend as you prepare your costumes and get ready for a weekend of fun. You can download the zip file, just an hour of songs, which is located at the bottom. Enjoy. Happy Halloween.

1. Ghost Busters - Krazy Baldhead ft. Outlines Remix
2. Realize the Ghost - Silver Swans
3. Holy Ghost! - Laura Stevenson & The Cans
4. Ghost Pressure - Wolf Parade
5. Angels, Ghosts & Demons - Brett Shady (thanks to Sunset in the Rearview for this discovery)
6. Ghost Brother - Great Lakes (shout out to Dyson Sound for this one)
8. The Ghost Inside - Broken Bells
9. I Died So I Could Haunt You - Stars
10. Rebecca St. Claire - Modern Skirts
11. He Is A Ghost - St. Claire (local Boston band)
12. Ghosts - Laura Marling
13. The Ghost Who Walks - Karen Elson
14. Friendly Ghost - Harlem
15. Anyone's Ghost - The National

Elvis Perkins in Dearland - Shampoo

This song has been playing a lot on WERS, a college radio station, and every time I hear it I have to go check and see who it is. It is not very often that I find myself double and triple checking artists of songs, the last time this happened was when Laura Marling kept popping up on my ipod during a large downloading spree and I had to keep checking who sang that "it's not like I believe in everlasting love" song. So take it as a sign that this is a good song that will catch your attention.
Elvis Perkins is surprisingly his real name and he has a kind of Bob Dylan feel especially when you see his solo performances. I really like their unique style and they always seem to be adding more and more instruments even though there are only four of them in the band, the musical talent just doesn't stop. Once you get past the wonder of their multi-instrument arrangements you will notice that his emotional warbling voice compliments his alternative/contemporary folk songs perfectly. I recommend Doomsday (has a great trumpet), Hey, 123 Goodbye, and Chains, Chains, Chains...in fact, the entire self-titled album is worth checking out. You can listen to more on his myspace. I am excited to hear more from this quartet, they are rumored to be an amazing live show. Enjoy.

Laura Marling - Ghosts

I have no idea how I came across this song from UK singer/songwriter, Laura Marling, but I am happy that I did. I love the lyrics and when the tempo picks up you can't help but sing along "Lover, please, do not fall to your knees, it's not like I believe in everlasting love." I don't mind having this one stuck in my head all day.

If you like this I also suggest checking out "Cross Your Fingers", "New Romantic", and "You're No God". On her website she explains how she came to design a "story box" instead of just a normal cd because she said 'I want people to love music,' she says, 'I want people to treasure it, not just my songs, but treasure music.'
