Tiger Waves - Fields

Austin band, Tiger Waves, previously released the fun summer song 'Weekends' that was one of my favorite songs of 2012. Their kickstarter to sponsor their tour was successful and they are about to embark on a three week tour that takes them all over the eastern and central US. They will be putting out their sophomore album sometime in the next six months so keep an eye out, you won't want to miss it.

Tiger Waves - Weekends

Tiger Waves is a band that developed over a 1,000 mile distance with songwriters James Marshall in Austin, and Reid Comstock in Chicago. Eventually they ended both ended up in Austin and expanded the band to a quintet and their sound blossomed. Their songs sound like indie pop (many have even said Beach Boys) with an underlying psych-rock groove. "Weekends" is a heavily textured track with great percussion and amazing background harmonizing that is carried through until the end of the song. Put this on your summer mix.

It's the city lights that call you home
but honestly, I'm going to take you far away from here.
This time I'll keep all my promises.

Wild Child - That's What She Say

When I was 14 I drew what I wanted for a tattoo. It was the outline of a whale that had "wild child" written in small cursive letters coming out the spout with an infinity sign. Thankfully I never got the tattoo, but I still have the drawing, and a soft spot for the words 'wild child'. I came across the band Wild Child when I was perusing one of Austin's venues, Emo's, and had to find out what type of music a band with that moniker would play. Turns out it's wonderfully addictive indie pop. I love the sweetness of the ukelele in some of the songs, but the best parts are their voices and heartwarming harmonies. Their debut LP is due out this October. You can get a free download when you visit their website.

International Waters - 1994

Over the past few years plenty of bands have broken up or called it quits. Of all the bands that have done so, there is only one that I can say I was legitimately sad to hear about: Voxtrot. That music soundtracked hundreds of college memories and their songs are scattered across countless mix CDs I have laying around. Luckily, when young band members move on it often means another band begins. This is the case with International Waters fronted by Mitch Calvert of Voxtrot. Their tag on bandcamp is 'jangle pop' which sounds about right. You can stream the full album on bandcamp. Just don't expect to hear any traces of Voxtrot, this is something much different, full of a matured romanticism that goes heavy on the string arrangements. "Green Lights Forever" is my favorite. Have a look-see, see what you think. Thanks to Eardrums for the heads up on this.

Grand Child - Make Me High

You are either going to hate or love this track. If you are anything like me, and enjoy a healthy dose of banjo and harmonica, and oh hey is that an accordion carrying the bass line? with your morning coffee, you are going to love this. I can't wait to get my hands on this album when it comes out later in January from this unsigned Austin band. You can stream a few other songs on the official website as well. Now excuse me, I need to go play this another twenty times.
