Sahara Smith - All I Need

Click to play: All I Need by Sahara Smith

This is an artists I saw on Paste Magazine this morning and absolutely loved her. You can use the link above to read more about this 21 year old Texan. She is cultivating her style which could be described as anything from americana, country, singer/songwriter, to pop. I can't stop playing this song. I just wish I could find a place to buy her music. "All I Need" is certainly my favorite of hers, but below is a good video of her twangier song, "The Real Thing". Enjoy.

Kevin Hammond - Broken Down

Last Friday night I double-dated with Jack and Rita to go see The Script since they are one of my Dad's favorite bands right now. Kevin Hammond opened the concert and my Mom fell in love with him! He clearly isn't very well-known because he was such an awkward kind of cute on stage while he was introducing his songs. When he sang a couple solos, his bandmates poked their heads out from backstage and took pictures of him. It was really cute. He doesn't have an album yet, only an EP on iTunes, but here's his myspace page.

After the concert my Mom fought through the teenage girls to get a picture with him. NO joke. I was getting my jacket at coat check and asked where Mom was....my Dad points to a crowd and says, "I got her in my vision! She's almost there!". So I scurried over and got a picture of her with him...such a funny/strange moment.

This is his most well-known song. His voice is very Jason Mraz/Matt Nathanson-esque, but I still like it.

Other songs: Maybe, The Way That You Move, Let Her Go

And a cover of Crazy, by Gnarls Barkley for your enjoyment since I'm loving all the covers...

Annie Little - Fly Me Away

This song is currently the song for Amazon's kindle and I smile every time I see the commercial, which must mean I like the song! Cute, happy song that I wanted to share. I definitely plan on looking into more of Annie Little's material since I had never heard of her before. She is actually the actress in the commercial as well which is pretty neat. All 3 of her songs on her website play in full and have catchy little beats.

Where to begin?

There are too many new songs that I come across to keep track of anymore. It makes me sad that I rarely have the time to share them with friends especially because everyone is so far away now. Furthermore, I work too hard at finding new music to not share it with someone. So this blog is the best way I could think of to keep everyone updated with wonderful, fantastic, and eclectic music.

The "collaborative" part of this is that my most music savvy friends, all with different tastes in music, are able to post their new music finds whenever they come across something that tickles their fancy, in addition to my daily updates. On top of all this using the comments section is highly encouraged.

There is never enough music to share and never a shortage of new artists to come across. There is just something about finding that perfect song of the moment that can make your day, your week, even your month. I have found, maintained, or even rekindled unlikely friendships based solely on our shared love of music and that is what I love the most about it. Music has the power to transcend every sort of barrier.

Enjoy the discoveries.
