Don't Haunt Me Mix

Here's a little well known secret: I detest the costume portion of Halloween to the point where I haven't had a costume since high school. However, as long as there are Midnight Milky Ways I'm ok with the candy part. I also like pumpkins and scooping out the guts in case you were wondering. The other part I especially like are the mixes that come out of working around a spooky theme. I'm just as excited about this year's mix as the previous two.

Stream all three mixes in one playlist on spotify. Of course it's missing some of my favorite songs due to the usual spotify issues, but that's why I reuploaded the old playlists so you can download all three.

Tyler Lyle - Medusa (: Persius :: Atman: Brahman)

So these three songs from Tyler Lyle are all sorts of awesome, which I was only able to find out after I managed to stop playing the first track on repeat. A few weeks ago some of my more folk music forward friends were singing his praises, I had a listen and I think I forgot to decide whether I liked it or not. Now, this different batch of songs is more urgent, noisy to just the right degree, and then there's cuss words, werewolves, and all sorts of monsters. It's utterly wonderful, a bit lonely, and feels just right for today and the uncertainty many of us are living with on different levels.

Tyler also wrote a note about where these songs came from and it is every bit worth reading on his bandcamp page where you can also stream and download (name your price) the three songs which are very much worth a few of your dollars.

Dancing in the Graveyard Mixtape

King Melodies - Fog Over the Graveyard

Veronica Falls - Found Love in the Graveyard

Sick Figures - Graveyard Swagger

There were plenty of graveyard themed songs to choose from this year and it just so happened to fit right in this 16 song and 60 minute long mix.  The bands featured are worth a serious look especially ones like Jared Mees, Veronica Falls, Feist, Ravenna Woods, Radical Face, and Chad VanGaalen who all released terrific albums this year. If you want more ghostly goodness in song format, last year's Songs About Ghosts mix had some of my favorite songs on it and got played year round, download it here. Without further rambling, put on your best costume and go dancing. Bonus points for actually dancing in a graveyard.
